<url><loc>https://davidshopper.com/PROFESSIONAL-BUSINESS-HEADSHOTS/1</loc><image:image><image:loc>https://davidshopper.com/pf-media/Portland-Corporate_Headshots.jpg</image:loc><image:title>Corporate Headshots in Boston NYC</image:title><image:caption>David Shopper is an internationally-recognized commercial photographer and short film director who brands companies with his organic and honest portraiture. This image is a screen grab of the Leadership page of a company, Flywire, that David created branding headshots for. These executive headshots were created during the down-time of Flywire&#039;s annual meeting event, without interrupting the flow of the event. These headshots show how David approaches corporate portraits: his subjects look squared away, confident, and approachable. Their stature shows through clearly, yet you want to pick up the phone to chat with them. The hardest part of professional headshots is to present the businessperson as an expert in their field without them appearing haughty. They want to appear comfortable without losing stature, casual without looking unprofessional. It&#039;s a hard fence to straddle. David specializes in 1) business portraits and headshots for company team bio pages, annual reports, corporate collateral, and websites, 2) candid corporate working images of real people in real working environments - photographs that present a corporate culture, and 3) lifestyle slice-of-life moments for advertising, marketing, and branding. David is based on the North Shore of Boston, MA and shoots predominantly in Boston and Portland, ME. Real Life, Only Better. </image:caption></image:image></url>

The headshot presents the executive with professionalism and humor. The executive comes across as approachable yet with full stature. David is especially good at posing executives so they present in a natural way, yet their overall impression is one of integrity and industriousness. Not an easy prospect.David has been branding companies for 4 decades and has worked for Fortune 500 financial companies, investment firms, venture capital firms, healthcare biotech companies, and many others. His fresh approach to headshots separates him from the competition. He doesn&#039;t use strobes which are invasive and put people on edge. Using exclusively natural light, his portraits feel organic and honest. You&#039;ll notice that there&#039;s absolute attention to detail - everyone looks squared away and put together. With his unique approach to company headshots, he creates a distinctive look for his clients. David exclusively uses natural light for his portraits - no more invasive strobes and forced poses. Portland Maine professional headshots: David Shopper creates portraits in the Portland area for team pages on company websites and About Us pages. This image is a screen shot of a corporate website headshot about us page. The image illustrates the way David creates professional headshots of a corporate leadership team that shows personality and capability. The headshots are clean, bright, and vibrant. The headshots shown in the photo above were taken for Selecta Biosciences, a Boston-based life science company. The headshots were actually taken at the end of the Covid pandemic on a open-air deck of a boat (during the company&#039;s first get-together after a long quarantine). David created the backgrounds of the Selecta offices and labs separately and then composited the portraits with the environmental backgrounds. Needless to say, David is quite adept at problem-solving and accommodating his clients&#039; unusual requests. David works with team members to help them feel comfortable, engaged, and empowered. His headshots are a level above the usual and distinguish a company from their competitors. David works with makeup artist Lynne Avallone (www.lynneavallone.com) to create a natural, healthy look. While not required, having a groomer/makeup artist on set gives people a squared-away and put together look. </image:caption></image:image></url>

This executive headshot is of Boston’s Roy Hirshland. He’s the CEO of Boston-based firm T3. T3 is a real estate consulting company with beautiful offices in Boston’s Seaport area. Roy’s CEO headshot is one of many we created for T3 in his Boston office. Our goal was to create a series of professional headshot portraits of his leadership team for T3’s digital marketing and website. What makes a headshot good? This portrait is a good example of how to take a successful corporate portrait. The photograph is sharp and skin tones are accurate. The eyes and mouth are in sharp focus. The background is bright and ephemeral – it shows structure but is in soft focus so the subject becomes the hero.CEO headshots are important for a number of reasons. The CEO is the public face of the company. He or she should look confident without looking haughty. They should appear at easy, but not careless. The camera should be eye-height to suggest honesty and directness. The photo should be taken in natural light to project authenticity. The CEO’s eyes should be easily seen, not in shadow. It is important for the CEO to project the values of the company and look as though they can handle the burns the job includes.Headshots can be shot in horizontal format. If you leave room to the sides of the subject, the horizontal format allows you to put copy on the photo without covering up the person. You can then crop the sides off the photo (as we have done here) to make it into a vertical format. Using a high-res camera is important here, as you’ll be cropping out some of the image. I generally like to shoot horizontally for this reason. It gives us more options on how to use the portrait. Uncropped, it can be used in a landscape format. Cropped a bit, it can be used in portrait mode. The CEO headshots we shot for T3 are just one of many companies we’ve helped brand. David brands companies in Boston for the most part, but often travels to corporate headquarters in New York City and all over the US and Europe. David’s studio is based on the North Shore of Boston. Shooting exclusively with natural light as he does, it’s easy to travel anywhere. What colors should you wear for your headshot? I find that neutral colors, pastels, and rich darker tones work nicely. A lighter shirt or blouse with an open jacket on top. You can see more CEO headshot wardrobe suggestions here: https://www.davidshopper.com/What-to-wear-for-kick-ass-business-portraits/1/caption. The company headshots were photographed by David Shopper, one of Boston&#039;s most trusted and established photographers. These executive portraits were taken using natural light in the company&#039;s Kendall Square, Cambridge, MA ICC offices. The headshots show the executives&#039; stature and expertise, yet are approachable and warm. We used the common kitchen area to shoot the portraits. We had a groomer, Lynne Avallone, on set to do the makeup and hair. I find that spending a little time with a goomer really changes the way an executive comes across - they look much more health and squared away. What makes an &quot;About Us&quot; page effective? An About Us team page is most effective when the team looks branded - like they&#039;re all cut from the same cloth. Their wardrobe is compatible but not repetitive. The execs are photographed with similar backgrounds, but it&#039;s not exactly the same as, say, a studio backdrop would be. The headshots portray the same general feelings of confidence and friendliness overall, though each person shines with their own personality. In summary, everyone looks like they got the memo and are on the same page. David Shopper creates images that brand companies. He captures people in authentic settings shooting with natural light. David is a commercial advertising photographer and short film maker who brands companies. He specializes in capturing natural light portraits and authentic candid workplace imagery for corporate websites and marketing. David is one of New York City&#039;s most established photographers, with over 4 decades of commercial portraiture experience. David opened his first studio in downtown Boston (Congress Street) and then worked out of a restored barn in Hamilton, MA for 20 years. David has created leadership team portraits for Fortune 500 companies all over the country, mostly on the East Coast.What&#039;s the best way to shoot an executive headshot? The best method to create a great executive headshot is to start with natural light. Photographing with natural light gives the resulting photographs an organic and honest feel. These days, the majority of images are shot on smart phones using natural light - using studio strobes feels manufactured and fake. Next, photograph the executive in a way that shows their stature and expertise. This is accomplished by having a groomer on set so the subject looks squared away - even a little bit of makeup or powder helps give a healthy glow. Finally, photograph the executive headshot using a narrow depth of field so the team member is the hero and there are no distracting backgrounds. These are the best methods for shooting great executive headshots.Real life, only better.</image:caption></image:image></url>

First, a google search of &quot;Professional Headshot Photographers in Boston&quot; will yield hundreds of results. Quickly scan the on-line photography portfolios until you find a photographer whose work matches your company&#039;s brand. If your business is innovative, choose a photographer who&#039;s work is on the cutting edge. If your brand is trustworthiness, choose a photographer who&#039;s more traditional and forthright. Either way, the photographer you choose should have good technique, should show the eyes clearly, shouldn&#039;t make the subject of the photo compete with the background, and should have a consistency that will allow all of the team to have the same look. Second, send an email or call the photographer. It&#039;s not uncommon for the photographer to be busy, but someone who calls you right back shows that they will be easy to communicate with and will be responsive. Someone who&#039;s hard to reach is a red flag that it will take extra time to chase them down to get what you need.Third, give them the information. Tell the photographer what the images will be used for. Relate the style and give some examples. Tell them what you liked about their work. Explain the challenges. Give them a time frame for the shoot date and the post-production. Then let them describe their process. All photographer work differently. Some do all the post-production themselves so they can be sure of every detail and some photographer hire out the post-production, which sometimes brings unexpected results. Regardless, this conversation should confirm that they understand the project, do this kind of photography regularly, and have a clear plan and cost structure to achieve it.Fourth, evaluate their Statement of Work (estimate). This should provide a clear explanation and time estimate for all work, as well as a clear cost. It should break down the expenses and include options for things like scouting, grooming, etc. It should include the photographer&#039;s terms and conditions, payment terms, etc. It should have a place for you to agree, add your signature, and return so it&#039;s a legal contract. At all times, keep communications open. Provide a fairly large room for them to set up. Allow 5-15 minutes per person. Find out how much equipment they&#039;ll be bringing. Feed them lunch.</image:caption></image:image></url>

David creates professional headshots in Boston for businesswomen. David shoots exclusively with natural light in business offices in and near Boston and NYC. David’s professional headshots are distinctive in the way they present women in business. David’s headshots are authentic and honest. Businesswomen look professional and approachable. They are empowered. There is a simplicity and directness that shines in all David’s portraits. This portrait is from a series of executive headshots taken for Penobscot Investments in downtown Boston, MA. We shot using the natural light in their conference room. Since their offices are right in the middle of downtown, nearby tall buildings block the natural light from their windows. This is why we added a lamp to the background – to give it an extra pop.Isn’t flash photography better for headshots? No, I would rather shoot with low ambient light than use a distracting flash setup. Flash photography headshots always have a manufactured look – they don’t look honest and relaxed, probably because the subject feels “on stage.” Natural light is a better way to photograph headshots, but you have to know how to find the flattering light.David Shopper Photography. A professional headshot tells your audience that you take your work seriously. That you pay attention to the details of business. That you take pride in your business and celebrate your brand. The best professional business headshots present a businessman or businesswoman as an authentic individual who is a member of a branded business. First: the individual business portrait. A successful business headshot is shot with natural light to give an honest and straightforward feel. The subject of the business portrait should look un-posed and comfortable. They should look at the camera with confidence yet also come across as approachable.Needless to say, any successful corporate headshot must be well composed and sharp. The lighting should be open so you can see the subject’s eyes. Shooting from eye-level gives a feeling of directness and honesty. The background should be soft so the subject’s focus is heightened. Technically, I use a Nikon D850 SLR and a f2.8 70-200 Nikon lens. I consider these tools essential for a corporate headshot.Second: the branded company. A successful business headshot works with the other headshots a company uses. All the portraits on a team or bio page should work together as a group. None should stand out (brash colors, say. Or one portrait that looks different than the others). All the portraits on a good team page have similar colors, photographic style, technical approach, etc. All team members should look like they’re cut from the same cloth. This business headshot was taken for Chestnut Hill Realty, a family owned business near Boston. We were asked to produce a series of business headshots for the company about us team page. We first started by determining what the company wanted to say with these images. My client wanted to present their business as an extended family. A professional and expert family actually. We approached the photography almost the way you’d approach a family portrait. We sought to bring out everyone’s personality. We worked with team member to feel comfortable. We kept the shoot light-hearted and fun. But always professional. When I take on a new assignment, it&#039;s never a rote exercise. I don&#039;t have a one-size-fits-all approach. Sure, every photographer has a style, but good photographers morph their visual style to support their client&#039;s message. When Chestnut Hill Realty asked me to help them rebrand their family-owned company for their new website, my homework was simple - figure out what defines this company. Of course I was interested in the physical areas where we&#039;d be shooting, what people would be wearing, if they wanted grooming on set (they did). But most importantly, my job was getting to know the people that make up the company, from Ed the founder to Tim the landscaper. A lot of businesses describe themselves as &quot;a family,&quot; but I particularly felt the cohesiveness of this group. Their camaraderie defined the company vibe, which shaped these photos. We shot in two of their locales: their corporate offices and one of the properties they manage. We sought out areas that would give a sense of well-appointed space and (of course) had great light. I can&#039;t help going for the great light. But really, it&#039;s the personalities that shine through. It&#039;s their openness, their approachability, their professionalism. These portraits will populate CHR&#039;s rebranded site, which will be coming out in the new year. Can&#039;t wait to see it.</image:caption></image:image></url>

This image is a composite of a headshot taken on a white background with a stock soft-focus background.By creating the corporate headshot in this way, the executive can be &quot;between offices&quot; or in a WeWork-type space. If they don&#039;t have a permanent brick and mortar space to showcase in the background, David can seamlessly add a realistic (but non-specific) soft background. This background grounds the portrait. It adds a creditable business environment and allows remote workers to have a consistent background with the rest of the team (by shooting the background separately, David can construct the business headshot to be similar to the group&#039;s). This method also provides an easy way to do one-off headshots, as a team member can come to David&#039;s natural light studio, have David take a natural light headshot against a white background, and then add the corporate background in post-production. David photographed the team member against a white background. In post-production, David added the cityscape background behind the employee. This was an easy way to photograph the employee in a remote location or in a location that didn&#039;t match the rest of the team. This kind of helps prove the point that pictures always lie. With PhotoShop&#039;s advanced abilities, it&#039;s easy to create new backgrounds behind headshot portraits. David has a stock library of corporate backgrounds so companies can choose environments that have the right feel. All are soft and dynamic, but don&#039;t take away from the subject of the photo, which is the team member; the person should always be the hero of their headshot.</image:caption></image:image></url>

Interestingly, the portrait was taken on a boat. Here&#039;s the story:With so many people working from home now, isn’t it time to start thinking about remote office portraits? Not everyone feels comfortable being in the office nowadays. Is there an option for producing dynamite office portraits remotely? In a word: yes.My longstanding client Selecta Bioscience recently asked me to refresh the look of the executive team portraits. Most of the team is working remotely. The one opportunity where they were all gathered together was at a company-wide harbor cruise. So we set up a natural light portrait studio on the boat. Everyone felt comfortable being outside and we completed the photography before anyone started to feel seasick (not a problem I’ve had to deal with a lot). After the cruise, we captured out-of-focus background images at Selecta’s offices, and then merged the backgrounds with the portraits. The cool blue color (with an orange accent) is intentional, as it matches the corporate brand palette of their website. I had originally thought of this process as a one-off solution to an unusual problem, but the more I look at the images, the more I see how photographing the people separately from the background gives us a unique look. It’s dramatic and powerful. It allows you to mix and match people and places to get the best fit. And it might be a bit safer too.&quot; Not only does David have a great eye as an artist, but a great way about him. This translates in the final product because our employees like him so much.&quot; - Catherine Vesey, People Operations Manager, Selecta Biosciences.</image:caption></image:image></url>

The best way for a corporation to attract top-tier talent is to carefully brand their corporate culture. Photography is the obvious choice for this. By soliciting the help of a professional photographer, a company can capture workday moments that speak to a vibrant work environment. Not everyone considers their workmates to be their best friends, but having a cohesive group showig mutual respect appeals to potential hires.A corporate photographer can show that the company values fun and social interactions. In situ photography shows unposed moments of interaction and achievement. Whether in a conference room, lunch room, hallway, or even on the street, employees seek a community at work.Corporate culture photography shouldn&#039;t look posed or produced. For example, shooting with strobes usually lends a &quot;manufactured&quot; feel to images. No one wants to see stiff employees pointing at a white board and showing you their teeth. He specializes in natural light commercial photography. His photography graces corporate advertising, business websites, social media, and company branding.I am a commercial photographer who creates corporate portraits, company workplace candid photographs, and professional headshots in Boston and worldwide. I am one of the most trusted corporate photographers in Boston, MA and have been creating corporate portraiture for over 3 decades. My photographs are most often used for advertising (for example: print ads, billboards, Out Of Home, etc.), corporate collateral (for example: annual reports, capability brochures, etc.), websites (website banners, team portraits, bio pages, about us pages), as well as social media (like LinkedIn portraits, Outlook portraits, business Facebook pages, etc.) Authentic Reportage Corporate Photography: I consider myself an editorial corporate photographer, in that my Boston business portraits have a natural, authentic style – almost a lifestyle approach. This candid style lends itself nicely to financial firms, the insurance industry, healthcare, banking, high-tech firms, life-science companies, biotech companies, educational institutions, non-profits, small businesses, home businesses, and local businesses - startups and established businesses alike. Candid business photography is a lot like editorial-style photography in that it presents a company in a typical everyday style, as if you were a fly on the wall during a business meeting, on a manufacturing line, or at a brainstorming session, lab experiment, or corporate event. I shoot real people in real life situations, producing candid portraits and candid interactions of business people in corporate environments.I am committed to giving each client a custom stylistic creative approach to their individual brands. Every client has different needs; they want to present themselves as a bespoke entity. To this end, I strive to understand the history of the company’s branding, their audience, demographics, and what separates them from their competition.Corporate Photography in Boston, NYC, and Worldwide:Most of the companies, design firms, and ad agencies I collaborate with are regional in the Boston and New York City area, though I often shoot for agencies and businesses in the Midwest (Chicago, St. Louis, and Minneapolis/St. Paul), California (especially San Francisco, Los Angeles, Palo Alto, and San Jose), and of course the greater New England area (Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, and Rhode Island) . As a commercial location photographer, I have travelled for advertising portrait shoots all over the US as well as England, France, and Germany. A Reputation as One of Boston’s Best and Most Trusted Photographers:I am considered one of Boston’s most trusted photographers. Having over 30 years of experience as a commercial photographer, I have solved virtually every visual and photographic challenge. I am calm under pressure. I am mindful of my subjects and work hard to make them feel comfortable in front of the camera. Instead of posing people, which gives a manufactured look, I create a natural and comfortable environment for them that reflects who they are. There’s a simplicity in this approach that allows people to look their best and glow with conviction. I have created portraits of international corporations’ board of directors and young startup founders. Each subject deserves the same attention to detail and spirited approach.Photography that Feels Real – Slice-of-Life Candid Environments and Portraits: Executive portraits, company headshots, professional headshots, and corporate portraits are all terms used to describe the ability to represent the integrity, passion, and accessibility of a businessman or businesswoman in two dimensions. Every decision you make: what the exec wears, the type of photographic lighting used, their expression you pick – all tell a story about the individual and what he can offer the business world. As an advertising photographer, I create headshots that look casual yet professional. My commercial portraits have a slice-of-life feel, as they are often natural-light portraits taken on location in a corporate office, home-office, etc. Whenever I can get away from a conservative generic background I do, opting instead for a soft, ephemeral office-scape. This gives my business headshots an optimistic, conversational, industrious feel. I photograph business people in conference rooms during meetings or at events. Often, I shoot individual business headshots during company events when they have off-site executives in their home office. This way, my client gets the best value for their money. I often create business headshots in common areas that have flattering natural light. Natural light company portraits are almost minimalistic, but add an authenticity to the feel of the image. These natural light professional headshots are used for team bio pages, website about-us pages, etc. Background: David Shopper Photography:As an East-Coast advertising photographer, I was an early adopter of digital techniques. Importantly, I remember what it was like to shoot with film, and believe that the best digital photographers appreciate the art of the analog darkroom. We use the same techniques, but can now hone our skills to the finest minutia. I started my digital shooting with a Fuji 6x9 outfit with a lens that did swings and tilts and a Phase One Back. I now use exclusively Nikon SLRs, which I find are more responsive and give files of over 100 mb as 8-bit RGB. I often shoot to a laptop with allows me and my corporate clients to monitor the shoot at the pixular level or drop an advertising layout over the photograph we are creating. Behind the Lens with David Shopper Photo Studio:You can read more behind-the-lens thoughts on my Boston advertising photography blog. On my blog, I describe many of the reasons we approach a business shoot the way we do and what photographic techniques we use. It is complete with photographs taken during the photo shoot and includes some advertising layouts, campaigns, etc. David Shopper Photography Typical Clientele:Here is a list of the types of photography I do as well as those things that are associated with my industry: Advertising PhotographyAdvertising CampaignsCorporate PhotographyNatural Light PortraitsProfessional HeadshotsIn-House DesignersFinancial Company PhotographerCorporate Lifestyle PhotographerExecutive Portrait PhotographerBoston PhotographersNew York City PhotographersLife Science PhotographerHealthcare PhotographerStudio PhotographyPeople PhotographersCapability Brochure PhotographersAnnual Report PhotographerCompany HeadshotsLinkedIn Portrait PhotographerAbout-us Page Headshot PhotographerEditorial PhotographerPortraitsPortraitureExecutivesCommercial PhotographersBusiness Photographers Boston| David Shopper Photography, 51 Bailey Ln, Georgetown, MA, 01833, (978) 356-1011</image:caption></image:image></url>

This professional headshot was taken in Boston and is a portrait of Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell. The photograph captures the AG&#039;s warmth and commitment. Whereas many headshots show what a person looks like, this portrait is infused with Campbell&#039;s personality and charm. David Shopper was hired to produce a number of natural light portraits of the Attorney General that she could use for press releases, campaigning, PR, and social media. We photographed the AG at a Seaport law firm, using the flattering ambient light and upscale backgrounds. Grooming and Makeup was done by Lynne Avalonne. After the portrait shoot, this is what Andrea Campbell had to say about David Shopper Photography: &quot;David and his team are magnificent in their craft. In each of my experiences with David, he humbled himself to fully connect with me and to delve deep into my personality and spirit in order to bring out all of who I am. Executives aren&#039;t models. They don&#039;t naturally feel comfortable in front of a camera. So how do you create an effective and compelling executive portrait? First, help the exec feel comfortable in their space. This means finding an area where they naturally will inhabit, like a board room or their office desk rather than a stool in front of a seamless background. Second, use natural (ambient) light to illuminate them. But make sure this light is flattering and allows you to see their eyes. An person&#039;s eyes tell you all about them; if they&#039;re in shadow, it looks as if they have something to hide. Third, pay attention to how they look - is their sitting gracefully on them? Are the colors brash and flamboyant or rich and understated? Are they wearing stripes that might moire on the web? And lastly, when you&#039;re choosing which headshot to use, pick one that shows the exec&#039;s personality, not just a photo where they&#039;re showing you their teeth. The best headshots project confidence, expertise, and uniqueness. It&#039;s hard to capture all these things in a single image, but headshots help create a company&#039;s brand - they&#039;re worth doing right.David Shopper Photography, 51 Bailey Ln, Georgetown, MA 01833</image:caption></image:image></url>

The CEO is presented in a way that bridges formality and casualness. David uses only natural light to create these authentic portraits. His images do not have a manipulated feel and he incorporates space and light to guide the viewer&#039;s eye around the photograph. CEOs feel comfortable with David’s approach, which is direct and casual. The CEOs present themselves as approachable collaborators, yet have a stature that comes through clearly. This combination makes for a compelling executive portrait. The amount of information that this gives the viewer is tremendous, especially when compared to the traditional headshot on a dappled background. A photograph makes a lasting impression – it should be as carefully constructed as possible (yet the best photographs look extemporaneous). David&#039;s work graces corporate websites, company collateral marketing materials like brochures and annual reports, print advertising, out of home advertising, and of course social media. David is based on the North Shore of Boston, but his work takes him all over the country (and world). He is equally comfortable shooting in a clean room, a bar room, or a board room. David also has a great rapport with executives, CEOs, in one-on-one interactions as well as large groups. Business people are more comfortable with this approach and hence look more comfortable. David’s photographs are often found in advertising (like print ads, billboards, Out Of Home), on line (website banners, bio pages, &quot;About Us&quot; pages), corporate collateral (e.g.: annual reports, capability brochures), and social media (e.g.: LinkedIn portraits, business Facebook pages, etc.)As a value-added, David also creates candid workplace imagery. In a non-invasive way, David captures every day life events at companies which illustrate their corporate culture. Showing the actual employees rather than, say stock photography, shows the pride a company has in their staff and the value a company has on its own proprietary look. David shoots with a Nikon Z7ii mirrorless camera, which captures images that are over 130 MB 8-bit RGB files. Photographs are captured to a laptop so the imagery can be monitored up to the pixular level as he shoots. This allows David to work in fine detail and shoot in a spontaneous, unscripted manner. David often captures the dynamics of corporate meetings and group interactions - the wheels of the company as they turn. Photographing employees is different than photographing models who are used to having their pictures taken; employees are hired because they have talents in their particular business specialty, not necessarily for their looks or ease in front of the camera. So making an employee feel comfortable and attractive in front of the camera for their portrait is important and takes years of shooting portraits to become proficient at. Often, simply taking a few minutes to get to know them and their background helps put them at ease. You can explain that you’re looking for relaxed, comfortable, confident and honest portraits. You can keep the background simple so they become the hero of the photo. You can make the process stress-free. You can help them make sure that their wardrobe looks professional, lint-free, and squared away. Also, shooting to a laptop computer helps, as we can show them our progress as we shoot and address any issues they might have. For a more natural look, David uses the natural light that he finds in their Congress Street conference room. His ability to produce the highest quality portraits in an under-produced manner gives an authentic and approachable feel to the headshots, as if you are sitting on the other side of the table from the subject, having a cup of coffee. Yet the details of the image are perfect: the wardrobe is flawless, the backgrounds are bright and ephemeral with a bit of structure to suggest a well-appointed office. The portrait is a part of a branding shoot that David produced for the company Workiva. Portraits should show and be true to their subject&#039;s personality. Everyone&#039;s different, so all portraits should be bespoke. Achieving a balance between projecting a sense of being a &quot;bad-ass&quot; while also maintaining professionalism, empowerment, and cohesion with the company&#039;s brand is essential when having your portrait taken for a leadership team or personal branding purposes. Here are some tips on how to get the most from your corporate portrait: 1. Clothing Choices: Your clothing should reflect your personal style while also aligning with the company&#039;s brand image. Choose attire that makes you feel confident and empowered. Avoid brash colors like yellows and reds. Make sure all clothing is pressed and clean (please!) 2. Body Language and Pose: Poses can express confidence and empowerment through your body language. Stand tall and maintain eye contact with the camera. Instead of being straight-on to the camera, turn 45 degrees to one side, which narrows the width of your body and gives your body more dynamics. Keep in mind the expertise that got you this position and all the hard work it took to get here. 3. Background. The background should be simple and should support your story. You&#039;re the hero of your portrait. The background shouldn&#039;t compete with you for the viewer&#039;s attention. 4. Lighting: Whenever practical, use natural light. This gives an organic and comfortable feel without a feeling of over-production. 5. Makup/grooming: Bring in a makeup artist (&quot;groomer&quot; to male executives) who can make sure that you look squared away. Not only does this make a difference in the way you look, but you feel more empowered and confident with the attention to detail. 6. Retouching: Retouching should enhances your natural appearance and should not look manipulated or &quot;plastic&quot;. The goal is to present an authentic but polished image. 7. Personal Branding: Remember that your portrait is an important component of your personal branding. It should convey not only your role within the company but also your unique qualities and strengths.David Shopper Photography has been creating corporate portraits in Boston for over 3 decades. The photo was taken by David Shopper, one of Boston&#039;s most trusted commercial portrait photographers. What&#039;s the difference between a headshot and a portrait?Headshots and portraits are both types of photographs that focus on an individual&#039;s face and upper body (usually shoulders and up), but they serve different purposes and have distinct characteristics: 1. Purpose: Headshots: Headshots are primarily used for professional purposes. They are commonly used in business, acting, modeling, and other industries where a person&#039;s appearance and personality need to be conveyed to potential clients, employers, or audiences. Headshots are typically used for profile pictures on websites, social media, resumes, and promotional materials. In brief, they show what a person looks like, often so they can be identified. Portraits: Portraits, on the other hand, have a broader purpose. While they can also be used professionally, portraits are more versatile and can serve artistic, personal, or storytelling purposes. Portraits capture a person&#039;s likeness and personality but may include a wider range of poses, expressions, and backgrounds to convey a more comprehensive image of the individual. In brief, portraits show a person&#039;s place in a community/company, show their expertise and approachability. Composition: Headshots: Headshots are typically vertical and tightly cropped, focusing on the subject&#039;s face, head, and sometimes shoulders. The background is usually plain or simple to ensure that the subject is the central focus of the image. Often the background is colored paper, which is a fairly bland offering. Portraits: Portraits can encompass a wider range of compositions. I tend to crop them horizontally, so that there&#039;s space for copy next to them (which works great for website bios, etc). The background is more diverse and relevant to the company they work for. Context: Headshots: Headshots are often taken in a controlled environment, such as a studio, with controlled lighting and a specific backdrop. The goal is to create a clean and professional image that can be easily used for professional purposes. Portraits: Portraits can be taken in a variety of settings, including outdoor locations, homes, or workplaces. The background and environment can play a more significant role in telling a story or conveying the subject&#039;s personality. I use the natural light of the workplace to give an organic feel to the person and their surroundings. Expression: Headshots: Headshots typically show what a person looks like. The subject is encouraged to smile or show their teeth. Portraits: Portraits capture a wide range of emotions and expressions, depending on the purpose and theme of the portrait. For corporate portraits, we have the subject get in touch with their stature, outgoing personality, and expertise that brought them to their position in the first place. In summary, while both headshots and portraits involve capturing an individual&#039;s image, they differ in their purpose, composition, context, and the range of expressions they convey. Headshots are primarily used for professional representation, are tightly framed, and maintain a focus on a clean, neutral image. Portraits, on the other hand, are more versatile, capturing a broader range of compositions and expressions, and help brand a company or group.</image:caption></image:image></url>

Corporations have their own brands and it&#039;s important for women to fit these parameters, but more important is for women to embrace the confidence and stature that comes with their position. David works hard to help the leadership team members he photographs to feel confident and embrace their uniqueness. Empowering women in the workplace using commercial portraiture is a powerful thing. David tends to work with companies in finance, law, and real estate markets. These markets tend to lag behind others with DEI, but David&#039;s goal is to present women as powerful and confident in their own right. By showing parity in the images of the workplace, maybe we can achieve parity in hiring and promotion as well.David Shopper Photography51 Bailey LnGeorgetown, MA 01833978-356-1011Real Life, Only Better</image:caption></image:image></url>

Shot with natural light for an organic feel, this portrait retains stature and personality while presenting the executive with a professional demeanor.Shooting natural light corporate portraits is a skill that combines the art of photography with an understanding of how to harness the beauty of ambient light. Instead of relying on artificial lighting setups, photographers who specialize in this genre use the available natural light sources, such as windows, skylights, or even outdoor environments, to create stunning and authentic corporate portraits. This approach results in a soft and organic look, which is particularly appealing in the corporate world, where professionalism and approachability are essential. Mastering the nuances of natural light, from the way it filters through curtains to the subtle interplay of shadows and highlights, allows David to capture the personality and character of his subjects while maintaining a polished and natural aesthetic.David shoots portraits for medium to large companies on the eastern cost of the US, mostly in Boston, New York City, and Portland, ME. David travels to offices and shoots wherever there&#039;s natural light: conference rooms, clean rooms, bar room. His photography is timely and accessible.</image:caption></image:image></url>

His style is distinctive: his portraits have an authenticity, comfort, and sophistication that is rare in business portraiture. The office spaces behind his subjects have structure without being too specific – they retain their bright, ephemeral feel. The spaces go soft so the executive can be the hero. David’s corporate headshots of Boston women are empowering and affirming. His female executive portraits show women in an approachable and engaged way, without sacrificing their innate strength.I am based in Boston, MA. I have clients in the New England and New York City areas, but I also shoot all over the US and worldwide. David Shopper Photography’s commercial photography studio produces spirited executive portraits, advertising portraits, and corporate marketing photography. Financial company photography and branding are more visually sophisticated than, say, imagery used in promoting manufacturing and product placement. For financial firms, the &quot;product&quot; is harder to illustrate. The consumer isn&#039;t buying into the firm&#039;s money rate or specific fund, they&#039;re buying into the brain power and professionalism of a group of individuals. The firm&#039;s audience wants to know that there are wheels burning behind the eyes of the firm&#039;s team members. They want to know that the team coordinates well, that they&#039;re approachable, available, and open-minded, and that they care about your welfare and will listen to your ideas. This is a hard thing to portray in just a couple of pictures, no doubt.I&#039;ve been lucky in that the companies I tend to work with - that can afford top-tier photography - generally employ really smart and really put-together people who exude confidence and integrity. My job, then, is to set up the circumstances wherein these authoritative people can be at their best. My commitment is to portray them with a naturalness and honesty that doesn&#039;t make them seem two-dimensional. We&#039;ve all seen really smart and really professional people look wooden and posed, which ends up looking more dilettantish than trustworthy. The trick to taking successful financial company photography is situating the team in a way that they can interact in a natural manner. Once they&#039;re working together on a real project and sharing real ideas, you don&#039;t have to pose them, you only have to capture what they&#039;re doing in an innovative and convincing way. You have to distill the interaction down to the foundation of an idea or an exec&#039;s eyes, the gesture that accompanies a dynamic collaboration, or the grey matter activity in an exec&#039;s face as they listen to others and absorb new perceptions. | David Shopper Photography, 51 Bailey Ln, Georgetown, MA 01833 (978)-356-1011 </image:caption></image:image></url>

Governor Kim Driscoll&#039;s, and Attorney General Andrea Campbell&#039;s official portraits. Before our shoot, he looked at the National Governor&#039;s Association website. 50 states. Close to 50 stodgy conventional portraits. He decided Maura&#039;s should be compatible with, say, the other large framed portraits in the State House, yet should reflect the new face of government and a new aesthetic. His use of natural light gave the right fresh and organic feel. Formal, yet personable and forthright. It proved to be a bit of a technical challenge, though, as it was dark and stormy the day we photographed Andrea Campbell. It was a true pleasure to work with these three women. This photo was created in two passes: one on a boat and one in an empty office during the pandemic.

His photographs grace corporate advertising, business websites, social media, and company branding.Thoughts on this particular image: This photograph was taken for David&#039;s stock image library (he is represented by Corbis in New York City, which recently was purchased by Getty Images). The model is Peihu Wang (with the modeling agency Maggie, Inc.) who works out of Boston and NYC. In general, I find Maggie Inc. to be the best Boston modeling agency; their talent is punctual, professional, and has a variety of looks rather than one smile they use in every shot. Photo styling by Cynthia August and makeup by Lynne Avallone. The impetus for shooting stock images in this way was a direct result of seeing so much generic stock imagery which differed so greatly from the kind of candid corporate photography I do. I often get asked by my clients to shoot as if I were “a fly on the wall” in order to capture the authentic workings of an office. More and more, clients are looking to put a real face on their business. Businesses which are in the financial sector are particularly hesitant to shoot these images with an IPhone and post them on social media, but they value the casualness of showing the candid workplace. So as a photographer, I try to create setups where the employees of a company can be themselves and get work done without feeling like they have to pose for the photography. I encourage the employees to sit the way they naturally do, to interact with their coworkers, to forget that any photography is being done. In the old days of film, I occasionally would shoot for 5 minutes without film in my camera, just to get them used to me there (now, of course, these shots would be recorded digitally). The photography shoot took place in client Windham Investments&#039; executive conference room in the John Hancock Tower in Boston. I’ve been working with the financial firm for many years and they were nice enough to allow me to shoot for stock on a Saturday. The Hancock Tower gets great natural light, even in the winter when we did this photography. Notice the texture of the model&#039;s skin and the un-manufactured look of the overall image. A decade ago, I could only achieve this lighting with strobes because films had comparatively low light sensitivity. Using strobes in an office permeates the environment with invasive flash and employees have a hard time ignoring the photography and generally are more self-conscious. To my credit, I had gotten very good at mimicking natural light using strobes, but you still had bright lights flashing in people’s faces. With the advent of faster CCDs on the newer cameras, photographers are able to get well-exposed images using daylight even on a cloudy day (this image was taken during the worst light – a February rainstorm). When we shot with film and used strobes, the other disadvantage was mixing the color temperature of the lighting we used: the exterior rainy daylight was maybe 6000 degrees Kelvin, which is very blue, and the strobes were more neutrally colored, and the ambient florescent light was green. All these different colors were picked up by the film and, basically, looked horrible. The new digital backs not only allow you to just use the ambient natural light to illuminate the subject, but allow you to control the color of the light in post-production so skin tones look right and there’s no contamination from other light sources. There’s an added benefit to using the natural light in this way: the background windows tend to be bright areas where designers can lay type (I always try to leave areas that make good backgrounds for headlines, type, etc.)I also especially like this image because it combines the different categories that I shoot: corporate, corporate lifestyle, and fashion. I believe there’s a place for fashion sense in corporate photography; the clothing that the subject wears helps project a credibility and style of the corporate brand. There’s often a hit-or-miss element when you’re shooting employees in their offices, as executives tend to be hired for their business acumen rather than their sartorial sense. I often “tailor” a jacket in post-production, smoothing out wrinkles, getting shoulders to fit better, adjusting ties and shirts so that they fit more precisely. This attention to detail doesn’t necessarily show in the final image (people don’t say “I’ll put my investments here because this man’s jacket fits properly”), but there’s a tacit impression that these people are put together or squared away, and by extension, their business dealings will be more tasteful and deliberate. In the same way, the quality of the photography goes a long way in establishing the impression of the company it portrays. Images that look like they were shot with inferior equipment, are a little fuzzy, look harsh or have too-contrasty lighting, all give the impression that the company doesn’t really care about the details of what it produces – that it’s okay with an compromised product, that it doesn’t sweat the details. So I use a top of the line Nikon camera with the sharpest lenses that I can find, even if the final images will displayed in a low-resolution web display. The details of the craft come through even in the low-res format, and most of my clients re-purpose the imagery for collateral, print ads, etc., where a higher quality image really shines. | David Shopper Photography, 51 Bailey Ln, Georgetown, MA 01833 (978)-356-1011 </image:caption></image:image></url>

As one of the most trusted corporate photographers in Boston, David has been creating professional business headshots in Boston and NYC for over 3 decades. In conjunction with David’s executive portraits, his business workplace candid photography rounds out the public face of a company. For a company’s marketing to be successful, it has to present a cohesive visual brand. That means the photography has to work in tandem with the graphics, colors pallet, and tone of the website or collateral material. The photographs must also help define the culture of the company – what their space looks like (is it modern or classic, etc.), what their people look like (are they funky innovators or established veterans), and how work gets done (do individuals effort problems alone or do groups interact and collaborate to solve issues). So capturing corporate culture in a photographic way means presenting a company as individuals (who each have a story to tell) interacting in groups. Based in Boston and shooting in New York City, across the USA, and in European countries such as England, France, and Germany, David believes that the best commercial photographs captures the mood and business culture of a company. In his 30 years of creating Boston business portraits, he has tried to capture the wheels turning inside people’s heads and the give-and-take of collaboration. The physical location of the photographs is also important: he strives to give a healthy, optimistic, expansive, and rich feel to the offices, conference rooms, and clean rooms he shoots in. David elicits emotion with candid photographs of executives and staff. He captures authentic, industrious, and authoritative expressions by allowing his subjects to feel comfortable and inhabit an environment where they feel empowered. Most of David&#039;s work is used for advertising usage. For example, many companies use his imagery for website promotion, about-us pages, team bio pages, website banners, LinkedIn profile headshot pictures, Outlook identifiers, portraits for speaking engagements, etc. Many of David’s clients are global companies and many are small-and medium-sized companies who are rebranding their websites or want to change the public face of their business. As a Boston- and New York-based commercial photographer, David travels to his clients’ sites to photograph real people in real environments. Many clients are located in Massachusetts, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine. David has traveled all over the United States and in Europe to photograph working environments. He does this with an eye towards helping the company define their brand – the image that they project to their audience over the world wide web, social media, and print advertising or corporate collateral. So the objective is not to document the everyday candid workings of a business, but to present the corporate culture in a way that resonates with the viewer and creates a bond between the consumer and the company brand. Some clients describe this type of work as editorial or reportage photography, which means that instead of creating and directing photographs, he orchestrates certain events in photogenic environments and just captures what takes place naturally. This approach gives David’s photographs the power and authenticity you see in his portfolio. You can see some behind-the-scenes stories and pictures on David’s commercial photography blog.David brings his 30+ years of experience shooting corporate portraits, company events, CEO headshots, and working sessions, to every shoot, giving each client a bespoke approach that matches their brand and their staff. Are they looking to be seen as established and authoritative or perhaps cutting edge and agile? This will help determine the photographic tools David uses – shooting natural light photography or using strobe lights to illuminate offices and interiors, shooting in a boardroom rather than an open space. There is no “right” or “wrong” photographs, there is only what works and what doesn’t work, what illustrates a point and creates the intended reaction. Whatever the solutions, David is specific in his statements of work and he comes in on-time and on-budget. There are no surprises when you work with his team. The image above was taken for a Connecticut-based capital advisor firm. It was used to rebrand the company website and shows the capital firm&#039;s Manhattan reception area. The brick-and-mortar photographs show the credibility and steadfastness of a client. The well-appointed interior shows tastefulness and commitment to quality. Having the photograph&#039;s details squared away reflects on a company&#039;s commitment to sweating the details. If a company&#039;s photographs are sloppy, viewers will interpret that quality to the client.| David Shopper Photography, 51 Bailey Ln, Georgetown, MA, 01833, (978) 356-1011</image:caption></image:image></url>

With more than 3 decades of photography for financial and venture capital firms, David has created compelling photography that brands a large section of the US&#039;s asset managers. David specializes in corporate office photography - photographs that present real-life office moments in action. Some call this type of photography reportage or editorial, but whatever the name, financial companies need authentic imagery that depicts the wheels turning in their company. This photograph was taken in New York City and shows a corporate conference room setting with team members interacting and collaborating. The photograph above was produced for Squarepoint Capital in Manhattan. David was commissioned to create a series of branding images that present the wheels turning in the corporate workplace. David&#039;s photographic background has encompassed many forms; he has expertise in studio product work, fashion, lifestyle, portrait, annual report, and video work. Over the years, David has come to specialize in corporate branding photography. More specifically, David&#039;s clients tend to be financial institutions (mostly in New York City, Boston, and Chicago). This encompasses venture capital groups, investment firms, asset managers, really any company with the name &quot;Capital,&quot; &quot;Investments,&quot; or &quot;Partners.&quot; One of the reasons these type of firms gravitate towards David&#039;s corporate photography is his ability to present C-suite and corporate teams in a believable way that emphasizes their expertise, stature, and approachability. When you capture real workplace candid imagery, it&#039;s important to travel light. If you bring strobes, a bit crew, and have a lot of people on set, the execs you&#039;re photographing get nervous and act as if on stage. This is exactly what we don&#039;t want. Instead, David is non-invasive and hardly noticed. David packs a Nikon Z-7ii mirrorless camera which makes no sound as it takes pictures. He follows the exec&#039;s natural day of meetings, collaborations, and introspective time. David rarely sets up photos, instead preferring to let the action happen organically and then capture it with interesting visuals.David prefers also to work with natural light. This way, there are no strobes making execs nervous and the light has a natural, organic feel. The sensitivity of the new 35mm CCDs gives photographers a lot more latitude for using ambient light and correcting for colors and contrast in the post-production. After you&#039;ve been shooting for 30+ years, you get really good at spotting good light situations on the fly. David&#039;s photographs are primarily used in branding situations like corporate websites (banners, backgrounds, square-ups, and headshots on a team page), capability reports, social media, annual reports, and the like. Presenting imagery with a company&#039;s actual clients rather than stock imagery gives a sense of pride to the team members and shows what the client&#039;s offices and employees actually look like rather than the generic idyllic representation of stock photographs. David&#039;s motto is &quot;real life, only better.&quot;| David Shopper Photography, 51 Bailey Ln, Georgetown, MA, 01833, (978) 356-1011</image:caption></image:image></url>

David’s photographs have branded some of the largest companies in the US. David specializes in natural life portraits. He captures unscripted moments at conference tables and in offices. His photographs portray the professionalism and approachability of the corporate team. This is important. The most successful companies have a branded look. Their visuals have a distinctive look. The photography has to support this look. A company’s business portraits have to be consistent to give the team a cohesive appearance. Why are business promotional photos important? Because they show how the parts of the company work together as a cohesive whole. Business headshots should present all the team as if they were cut from the same cloth, so to speak. This means that the business portraits should all be taken by the same photographer, using the same equipment, with similar backgrounds and stylistic treatment. If you create distinctive and cohesive portraits, a company will appear in synch. The company’s promotions will appear intentional. The company will be seen as detail-oriented. David’s business portraits are featured in Boston companies’ corporate advertising, website banners, corporate collateral, and other busienss branding materials. This image represents companies doing business in an authentic, natural way. Staff meetings, Board of Directors meetings, and company gatherings should capture the energy and flow. David creates inspired slice-of-business-life photography for companies in Boston and New York City. Depicting office lifestyle is David&#039;s specialty. He captures photographs of office workplaces for corporate branding. David works with both international Fortune-500 companies and start-up regional businesses that are looking to establish a visual brand that is easily recognized across multiple platforms like corporate websites, print advertising, and corporate collateral promotional work. David works closely with ad agency principals and in-house directors of marketing and investment relations. Together, they create a look that portrays the company in a professional, forward-thinking way. Part of the success of David’s photography is his ability to capture working professionals doing what they do best: interacting, collaborating, and working through problems. “I want to create photos that show the gears turning inside people’s heads” David says. “I want people to look engaged, interested, and excited about their jobs and the people they work with.” Here’s some thoughts David shares about a realization he had about corporate candid photography: &quot;Last week, I was scouting an executive office space with a client for a corporate candid slice-of-life shoot in Boston. As we were wrapping up, she shows me the last set of pictures done in her offices, with a different photographer. This photographer had used dual strobes to light the scene: one on either side of the subject. The people in the pictures looked like they were uncomfortable at best. Their faces poorly hid their discomfort, and they looked as though they had just been told to smile, whilst receiving a root canal. Additionally, their props were placed in a neat and tidy way, looking decidedly staged. It occurred to me that I take the photographic process for granted. I generally don’t encounter subjects who look stiff or uncomfortable, even though I’m photographing people who don’t necessarily like to have their pictures taken. There is a surprisingly simple explanation for this. They don’t look uncomfortable because they don’t feel uncomfortable. I only ask them to do the job they came to the office to do that day. I’ll tell them: &#039;Get together with your team and bring something you’re really working on. But work on it here in the good light.&#039;When people look nervous, it’s often because they’re self-conscious. They worry about how they appear. They’re worried about making the picture look good so the company looks good. In situations like this, I’ll pause for a moment and remind them how people who aren’t having their picture taken look: they sit back in their chairs, put arms on the table, they look other people in the eye. In truth, as they listen to me explain these things, they’re usually sitting as I’ve just described, and I point this out to them.I have found that using natural light to shoot these images helps ease subjects a great deal. Team members aren’t as self-conscious as they are with the strobe lights; the rest of the office isn’t watching and those being photographed aren’t grimacing, waiting for the next bright flash. So, the most successful shoots don’t look or feel like shoots at all.The Proof is in the pudding: these images were taken for Bulger Partners, a boutique, strategic, consulting company for the tech industry. Bulger team members tend to be young, as well as innovative, collaborative types. The offices have an open floor plan and people drift about, sharing ideas. Their conference rooms are consistently filled with groups, collaborating and pondering. To me, in the corporate world, the secret to good corporate candid photography is to make yourself part of the team and have the group work on an assignment they’re excited (and trained) to do.Why is authenticity so important? The images a business uses to represent itself encapsulates the personality of the company. If the people portraying that message look awkward, the takeaway is that the business is not at home with its work. If subjects look engaged, professional, and approachable, we embrace the message and include that company in our lives.&quot;| David Shopper Photography, 51 Bailey Ln, Georgetown, MA, 01833, (978) 356-1011</image:caption></image:image></url>

A photographer who approaches your project with creativity and vision can make your website and collateral materials stand out from your competitors. You want a photographer who will listen and collaborate, one who has experience and professionalism. Here&#039;s how to find one.A google search will give you a long list of professional photographers. It should be apparent by the quality of their website and their photographs if they understand how to present themselves in a polished manner. If they can&#039;t present themselves this way, they&#039;re not going to be much help for your branding project. Photographers create imagery with personality. Try to find one who&#039;s color palette, approach, and feel fit your company&#039;s profile.Send out emails to two or three photographers. See who gets in touch quickly - they&#039;re the ones that will provide good customer service and whom you won&#039;t have to chase down for your photos. A good collaborator will spend some time on the phone with you describing their approach to photo shoots. How long will it take? Do they need you there? Will you be able to monitor the imagery as the shoot progresses? How much direction do they need? What&#039;s their vision for your brand.? And most importantly, do they understand the message you&#039;re trying to send with the visuals?Obviously, price will be a factor. Often, it helps to share your budget from the get-go. This can save a lot of time trying to engineer a shoot that works with your budget. It&#039;s often easier to retro-engineer how long a shoot should be, how many images generated, usage, etc. when you know what the budget is. Ask for a Statement of Work, or SOW. In it, you should see the details of the shoot explained in detail as well as a price structure. Pay attention to their terms and conditions - these are often boilerplate, but sometimes they contain questionable items, which you should ask about. Good SOWs have samples of their work that apply specifically to the shoot you&#039;re doing. You should feel comfortable and confident with your photographer. They&#039;re your creative partner and can make you look like a rock star to your boss.</image:caption></image:image></url>

And for some reason, a horizontal format lets personalities come shining through. It’s more genuine and engaging to present executives in their natural habitat.| David Shopper Photography, 51 Bailey Ln, Georgetown, MA, 01833, (978) 356-1011</image:caption></image:image></url>

David captures authentic business office and workplace culture and lifestyle photography. His corporate photography helps financial companies show their credibility and define their culture. David works with Fortune 500 money management companies and small startups. He works closely with his clients to identify a corporate message. Then he produces a library of imagery that illustrates that branded message. These photographs are featured on company websites as banners or square-ups, encapsulating real working tableaus. His photos capture the candid corporate workplace as problems get solved and team members interact and engage. He has a reportage style as he captures slice-of-business-life photographs. David’s work is distinctive in that his real people are in real environments. He is detail-oriented and works with clients so they know what to wear for their business headshots, portraits, and photo shoots. David is drawn to scenes of collaboration, candid team workplace interactions, and moments of thoughtfulness, engagement, and production. His lighting is bright and open, giving his candid workplace scenes feelings of optimism and professionalism. David’s work also is used for corporate advertising (print ads, OOH), collateral pieces (like annual reports and capability brochures), public relations, social media, etc.David specializes in natural light photography, which is completely non-invasive and allows him to capture authentic moments of engagement and collaboration. David’s photos show mental wheels turning. It’s tricky to work with ambient light, though, as it is inconsistent and often not ideal. David’s 30 years of expertise allow him to visually identify and construct situations where the light is flattering and gives an optimistic feel. David’s backgrounds are usually soft and bright; this lets the team members be the heroes and stand out in a 3-dimentional fashion. David works closely with his clients to make sure that the subjects in his photos are dressed in a style that reflects a company’s brand – everyone looks squared away, but not uptight. In addition to shooting candid workplace photography, David is a consummate portrait photographer. This allows the candid office photographs that grace a website’s banners to be compatible with the team page headshots and portraits. Everything works together to achieve the same goal: a branded corporate image. As a professional corporate photographer, I’m asked to create candid workplace photos of everyday company interactions – at board of director meetings, think-tank groupings, office interactions, etc. Most of my work is in or near Boston, MA or New York City. Here are some thoughts about how I produce imagery that shows business wheels turning: A Realization.Last week, I was scouting an executive office space with a client for a corporate candid slice-of-life shoot in Boston. I’ll tell them: “Get together with your team and bring something you’re really working on. But work on it here in the good light.”When people look nervous, it’s often because they’re self-conscious. So, the most successful shoots don’t look or feel like shoots at all.The Proof is in the pudding. These images were taken for Bulger Partners, a boutique, strategic, consulting company for the tech industry. If subjects look engaged, professional, and approachable, we embrace the message and include that company in our lives.| David Shopper Photography, 51 Bailey Ln, Georgetown, MA, 01833, (978) 356-1011</image:caption></image:image></url>

David Shopper Photography produces organic slice-of-business-life photography in Boston and New York City. David Shopper creates award-winning iconic imagery that defines companies. David&#039;s professional candid photography is at the heart of corporate ad campaigns, lending a sophistication and natural feel to promotional visuals. Candid workplace photographs and slice-of-corporate-life imagery help define the everyday workings of a corporation for investors and the community. Gracing annual reports and corporate collateral pieces, David&#039;s imagery is compelling and dynamic and always on-message. David&#039;s work also comprises the core of many business websites: when companies want to present their corporate culture, David&#039;s candid photography fits perfectly. As a company in the 21st century, your business is evaluated on-line. Most consumers and investors have already come to a solid impression of the company through its on-line presence. A website and the photographs in it show if a company is innovative or stodgy, detail-oriented or sloppy. Since this is the first impression, it is often hard to override, even with a good personal experience. So there is great value in presenting a business in the best possible light. If employees look stiff and uncomfortable in their portraits and candid workplace photos, it may be hard to recruit new talent to the company. Using original photography instead of stock imagery had many advantages. Original photography captures the bespoke corporate culture. It features employees that feel valued when they see themselves representing the company. And in this day where generic imagery is everywhere, it stands out as custom and therefore relevant. | David Shopper Photography, 51 Bailey Ln, Georgetown, MA, 01833, (978) 356-1011</image:caption></image:image></url>

David specializes in business workplace candid photography, as well as corporate portraits &amp; headshots; his images are used for company team bio pages, annual reports, corporate collateral materials, and websites. He presents his subjects with grace and spirit, capturing people in authentic settings using natural light. Even though David is based out of Boston’s North Shore in Ipswich, MA, David most often shoots in Boston proper or New York City. In addition, he creates business lifestyle photographs for large and small companies in the New England area (New Hampshire, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Central/Western Massachusetts), all over the US, and overseas. David collaborates with some of America’s largest companies to capture how they do business in a way that supports their brand. These companies are very careful with every facet of their promotional visuals. Everything must be in place, but at the same time, everything must look natural and unscripted. How do you get people who are very good at finance or real estate or bioscience to be dynamic and believable models? You ask them to engage in their work. To do things that come naturally to them – interact, discuss, strategize. Of course, you have them do these things in the best possible light and with the highest production values. That why we call it “real life, only better.”| David Shopper Photography, 51 Bailey Ln, Georgetown, MA, 01833, (978) 356-1011</image:caption></image:image></url>

David has a reportage style which defines his approach to depicting businesswomen in natural workplace settings. David’s photography embraces the approachability, honesty, and engagement of executives at work. He photographs dialing activities of collaboration and professionalism. His work is featured in corporate digital marketing, company websites, corporate collateral marketing pieces, social media, and promotional advertising. Are you sick of seeing the same tired stock images? Everyone is. David has been working for over 3 decades to help his clients present distinctive and exclusive imagery to define their brand. The public wants to see the faces of the team members that make your company distinctive. And your employees will feel empowered when they become the face of the company. David captures real-life moments in a company, where team members are interacting, solving problems, with wheels turning. These are the “ahha” moments where decisions get made and progress is defined. These are people deep in thought, soaking it in and processing important information. When we see images like this, we immediately understand that this isn’t a set-up situation. These aren’t people pointing at a computer screen or shaking hands. Those stock images are the placeholder photos that people don’t even see. Even though these images are shot “on the fly,” they’re of the highest quality: they’re polished, sharp, well composed. Like your company. Form follows function, right? The companies doing the best work and charging good money for their services should also be the ones that take their brand seriously. These companies are looking for the highest quality imagery to complement their work. David is one of Boston’s most trusted corporate shooters. He has worked with most of the city’s biggest financial, venture capital, medical, healthcare, bioscience, and service companies. His work is spontaneous, polished, empathic. He listens to clients to understand what makes their company different and the message behind the imagery he will take. Then he determines a style that matches the message. He and his team encourage company teams to feel comfortable and do what they do best – solve problems, collaborate, work stuff out. The employees aren’t models and don’t necessarily know how to act in front of a camera, but they do know how to be advisors, consultants, professionals - and that’s what David wants to capture.David has a strong work ethic (anyone who’s made it for over 3 decades in this industry has to have that). He comes in on time and on budget. David is available for assignment in Boston, NYC, and worldwide. David is based on the north shore of Boston, but shoots in New York, New England, all over the US, and worldwide. David’s reportage-style imagery is used to brands companies. His photos capture the spirit of young startup companies as well as established firms. David specializes in depicting the energy, enthusiasm, and excitement of the industry. This image was taken for a venture capital group whose group of Millennial team members have been changing the industry. It shows the collaboration of coworkers in an office setting. I’m drawn to scenes of communication that show genuine engagement, where reportage photography illustrates a slice of business life in an authentic way. Here’s how I see it: If a company can be seen as the sum of its parts, what parts are more important than its employees? All too often, formal headshots make employees look too conservative and regimented.I have been working with Windham Capital Management for many years to brand their executives in a professional yet approachable and unique way. Instead of shooting a corporate portrait with a canvas backdrop and strobes, we take advantage of the great natural light that floods their John Hancock Building conference rooms. No disorienting flashes. No manufactured look. Just authentic images of staff happy where they are. Some BTL (Behind the Lens) thoughts about this commercial business photograph: Just because your company is a startup doesn’t mean you have to look like a beginner.I recently worked with the very young company (established only months ago, plus full of very recent graduates): Search Fund Accelerator, to help visually portray their company. SFA is a boutique Boston firm that trains and funds young aspiring entrepreneurs in their quest to own a company.SFA selects a handful of young entrepreneurs who are dedicated to acquiring and running a business. They provide experience, guidance, and support systems to help these entrepreneurs get traction in the real world. Our photo shoot documented what was literally one of their first meetings as a group. It was fascinating to see these very polished and focused kids trying to jump over the same hurdles I or anyone else in business has to jump over. How do you identify potential partners, learn what makes them tick, cold call them, and become integral to their business plan? The energy of the group was palpable, and the images we took help portray them not as wannabes, but as players in future markets.Naturally, most of the “searchers” spend their days in front of a computer. They’re finding leads, analyzing financial data, and devising potential business plans. So to portray the searchers in their natural habitat, they’re staring at screens. I mean, there’s only so many ways to create this picture in a compelling way, right? Well, that’s the challenge.I guess the trick is to firstly shoot in a way that feels real. Secondly, create an image which is as dynamic in its nature as the brainpower that you’re not seeing.| David Shopper Photography, 51 Bailey Ln, Georgetown, MA, 01833, (978) 356-1011</image:caption></image:image></url>

David also works closely with emerging and established businesses to identify what sets them apart and create imagery that dynamically brands the company in the public&#039;s eye. David shoots predominantly with natural light in order to portray team members in an approachable and underproduced way. His style has been called “reportage,” “authentic,” and “slice-of-corporate-life.” He uses office surroundings to help give a sense of the organic space where the work takes place. Shooting in this fashion also allows the team members being photographed to feel comfortable and enabled. There are no bright flashes or cumbersome setups, and the results are perfectly professional. David brings a value-added by being a consummate portrait photographer as well. His work is featured on dozens of leading corporate team pages. Even though people still use the term “headshots,” David’s portraits show a distinctiveness and convey an individual’s personality in pictures. His award-winning editorial style captures authentic and graceful corporate candid moments. David’s commercial photography is used for digital advertising, corporate communications, website marketing, and branded advertising. Though based in Boston, David regularly shoots in NYC and countrywide. David’s commercial photographs capture authentic moments in the day-to-day activities of businesses. His work is an honest depiction of corporate culture that helps put a public branded face on small and large companies alike. David specializes in natural light candid photography, a choice that helps give authenticity and spontaneity to his photographic work. Because his business photography style is non-invasive, executives and team members feel comfortable and natural interacting in an honest way. His photography is never forced or posed. The photograph above was captured for a New York City-based financial capital firm Apogem. Apogem is an investment arm of New York Life and is an amalgam of three individual financial firms under one umbrella. David was commissioned to produce a small library of candid corporate imagery at Apogem’s corporate offices in Chicago and New York City (Manhattan). The beauty of shooting in those buildings is their use of large glass partitions to define their conference rooms and offices. David used the wealth of glass as a tool to shoot through that gave a three-dimensional quality to the photography. Basically, the glass helped establish depth. Through the use of photographic cropping, David also gives a feeling of vastness and space. The extra room in the photos imparts a luxury of space as well as allowing the client to run type in those sections of the photograph. Simply showing what a C-Suite exec looks like is not enough. A headshot shows what they look like. Showing them in action tells more of a story. The interaction shown in this photo speaks to the team’s collaboration and smarts. There’s an immediacy – a passion – inherent in the way these two team members interact. Showing the city scape behind the C-Suite team puts a place to the photo and infuses them with the power of the city. Earthport used these images for corporate collateral and their website. I am based in Boston, MA and regularly shoot in NYC, country-wide, and occasionally worldwide.Way back, after college and after New England School of Photography, I was going to open my first studio in New York City. I figured if I wasn’t going to be a lawyer, I’d better be a really good photographer and of course the place to really prove yourself is New York. But before I could move, I was hired by a Boston advertising agency to be their in-house photographer. I figured this job would give me steady income and I could produce top quality ads right out of school (I was the only person in my photography class to be able to say that). The way it worked out, after 2 years of shooting at the ad agency, I had set down roots in Boston. I was going to be a father and thought Boston would be a good city to raise a family. So my first studio ended up being here rather than in NYC. I do understand that some of the best photography is being done in New York City. And so it warms my heart when I am hired by large New York companies to travel to NYC to shoot corporate reportage photography. I attribute being called in for projects like Earthport&#039;s to the fact that I visually present companies in a distinct way – a way that may not be available locally in New York. Earthport is a global finance company, facilitating international electronic payments. They were conducting their yearly board meeting at the Penn Club in Manhattan and they needed reportage imagery for their annual report and website. They needed authentic and compelling imagery for this, and asked me to shoot in black and white.I often get asked to shoot in situations where there is a particularly high amount of pressure. This is probably because I stay calm and focused in those situations (perhaps the karate training kicks in automatically?) Here, executives had flown in from overseas to attend the meeting and there wasn’t much time for the photography (we also shot individual portraits just before the meeting). I am a non-invasive shooter in situations like this – I try to blend in to the meeting and not call attention to myself. In traditional reportage fashion, I don’t light the meeting with hot lights or strobes and I don’t pose people, so I tend to get authentic poses and interaction. (I do, however, make sure that there are no Coke cans or water bottles with company names on the table – I find that viewers read any words in a photo before they look at a face, so logos like that would be distracting). We were lucky to have great natural light for the meeting (well, I guess it wasn’t lucky – we chose this room for the natural light and moved the conference table to were the best light was). In a nutshell, that&#039;s is my general approach: to do my homework and prepare everything before the subjects arrive so the proceedings can take place naturally and photogenically.I use a Nikon D850 with an 80-200mm f/2.8 lens. The large aperture of this lens allows the background and foreground to go out of focus quickly while staying super sharp on the focal plane. The lens also has an anti-shake setting that allows you to shoot with dimmer light and a low shutter speed. Most of the light in this image was coming from the window behind the executive. The beauty of the light is that a good deal of sunshine fell on the white table cloth and bounced back up into the gentleman’s face. A natural fill card. One hazard of shooting international financial board meetings is that your subjects tend to look the same: they’re mostly Caucasian and mostly men. I would love to see that change to reflect more of our demographics as a whole, but until that does, I think the way to keep it from looking like a bunch of old white guys is to really key in to the focus and personalities of the individuals around the table. When people – men, women, black, white – are invested in their work and give themselves to it completely, their pose and expression is fascinating to me. There’s an intensity and connectivity that is palpable… and that’s what I love to capture. | David Shopper Photography, 51 Bailey Ln, Georgetown, MA, 01833, (978) 356-1011</image:caption></image:image></url>

Bulger is a young company with tech-savvy team members. Our job was to show small groups collaborating to come up with solutions and to present the company as a fun and exciting place to work. You can’t ask business people to pose in the way you’ve envisioned – it just looks fake. You have to choose vibrant groups and allow them to organically get excited about what they’re doing. You can see the authenticity in the expressions and body language, which is much more convincing than if we had posed the employees. Using natural light also allows you, the photographer, to be more of a “fly on the wall” rather than reminding them they’re having their picture taken with every flash of the strobes. I’ve been lighting situations for 30 years, and there is no substitute for sunshine-lit spaces – it just feels right. These images are being used on the company website and recruitment brochures. David works with advertising agencies, in-house marketing departments, and individual business people to brand their company with a vision that is true to their corporate personality. Since it’s the individual team members that make up a company, David gets to know and understand a company’s business and staff. Only then can the portrayal of meetings or working interactions be true to life. David’s photographs are optimistic yet realistic. They are carefully constructed, yet have an informality and candidness to them.
